James at one time preached at churches on a circuit, Later he manag
ed ( or owned) the Molloy Hotel in Corsicana and the family, Nellie, Mab
el a nd Louise (Beulah) lived in the hotel.
*It is doubtful that James owned or managed the hotel, given his finan
ci al status. Likely he fit the category of individuals that lived in t
he ho tel in exchange for firewood or labor. See

MOLLOY HOTEL, Navarro County History:
"Know all men by those present that we, James C. Neil of Grimes Count
y, Th omas I. Smith of Navarro County and David R. Mitchell of said coun
ty agre ed to be partners in the sale of property acquired by anyone of th
em."
David R. Mitchell acquired the land originally granted to Jesus Ort
ez a nd on January 30, 1850, conveyed 100 acres of it to the town Commissi
one rs to be the original site of the town of Corsicana.
Lots 8, 9, and 10 in Block No. 241 recorded in Vol. L, page 134 of the N
av arro County Deed Records, was granted to Henry Molloy in 1874 from Gra
nt or F. A. Rice and A. Groesbeck, trustees for $700.00. The revis
ed m ap of Corsicana drawn by Theo. Kosse described the proper
ty as t he H. T. & C. Railroad Addition to the City of Corsicana. In 18
71 when th e
railroad reached Corsicana a progressive period was felt almost immediat
el y. Commecial expansion was evident and Corsicana population soared.
Mr. Rice and Mr. Groesbeck were railroad men and Rice, Navarro Count
y, a nd Groesbeck, Limestone County was named for these men.
In 1881 Henry Molloy and wife, Ellen E. Molloy, being the grantor of t
he p roperty granted to George T. Jester and D. M. Pendergast Warranty De
ed f or the consideration of $500.00 at this time, Henry and Ellen E. Moll
oy p ut a second story on their building and Jester and Pendergast owned t
he fi rst story of the Molloy Hotel.
In April 1881 H. L. Molloy and wife entered into a certain contract a
nd ag reement with George T. Jester and D. M. Pendergast for a considera
ti on of $1,974.00 to build and execute upon certain lots and premises o
wn ed by Molloy, certain improvements and buildings in said contract reco
rd ed Deed 40, page 294.
The Molloy Hotel served Navarro County for a span of 100 years. At o
ne ti me there was a barber shop, cabinet shop, tailor shop, Western Uni
on Teleg raph office, large dining room, a grocery store, and 20 rooms ups
