Hartwell Belvy was born on February 19th, 1856 in Breckenridge Co., Kentucky.1 Hartwell Belvy's father was Henry Blades Basham and his mother was Sarah Jane Brock. His paternal grandparents were Littleberry Basham and Mary (Polly) Basham. He had a brother and three sisters, named James Henry, Idella, Mary E. and Nancy E.. He was the oldest of the five children.
