From May 20, 1905 Trinity Journal:
Headline: Death of a Young Lady.
Miss Edna Bassham of Trinity Center, who for several months past h
ad b een attending school in Oakland, died at Lane's Hospital in San Franc
is co last Sunday.
Miss Bassham had completed her studies and was preparing to retu
rn ho me when she was attacked with appendicitis and becoming so serio
us th at an operation became necessary and she was taken to the above ment
ion ed hospital to have it performed. Preperations were made and the patie
nt p laced under the influence of ether, but her condition was so weak th
at t he anesthetic caused paralysis of the heart, and she dead
(sic) before the knife was applied.
Realizing that her condition was serious her relatives at Trinity Ce
nt er were notified and her sister, Mrs. McDonald, hastened to Oakland b
ut d id not arrive in time to see her sister alive. The body was broug
ht to Tri nity Center for Burial.
The deceased was aged twenty-four years, having been born in Weaverv
il le November 29th, 1881, and all her life, with the exception of t
he ti me at school, has been spent in this county. Of immediate relativ
es she le aves to mourn, an aged mother, two sisters, Mrs. Pete McDonald a
nd Mrs. L ee Hall, and three brothers, William, Bert and Frank Bassham, wi
th the exc eption of the last named brother who resides at French Gulch, a
re residen ts of this county.
