Alex 'Clifford' was born on March 10th, 1909 in Brownsville, Edmonson Co., Ky.1 Alex 'Clifford''s father was Reuben 'Alfred' Basham and his mother was Martha Elender (Mattie) Self. His paternal grandparents were Reuben Bartlett (Bartley) Basham and July Ann Johnson; his maternal grandparents were Greenberry Self and Elizabeth Lee Bostick. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Freddie Norman (Bartley), Everett Commadore Tilford, Homer Albert (Tuck), John Thomas, Living, Living, Living, Allbennie Florence and Isthmie Mae.
