William Wallace Anderson 
William Wallace was born on February 21st, 1812 in ,,,VA. William Wallace's father was Alexander Anderson and his mother was Esther Crosby. His maternal grandparents were George Crosby and Susanna Evans. He had a brother and two sisters, named George Alexander, Elizabeth E and Martha Ann. He was the oldest of the four children. He had a half-sister named Mary. He died at the age of 36 on March 4th, 1848 in ,,,IL.General Notes
He was the father of DAR #197383 Mrs. Dorcas Crowley for Amos Evans.
He was the grandfather of DAR #199216 Miss Lillian Crowley.
He was the grandfather of DAR #199217 Mrs. Anna Crowley Mitchell.
Per descendent of William Wallace Anderson that although William and Janette owned a plantation in the Shenandoah Valley and held many slaves, they did not believe in the institution of slavery and let their feelings be known. Even before the Civil War, pro and anti slavery feelings were hot. In the 1840s a friend rode up and told him that a posse of slave proponents was on its way to take action against him. He had only enough time to hitch up a team of horses to an open wagon, toss in bedding and what money and victuals they could grab quickly and head the family for Indiana. It was a long and arduous trip and they were not prepared for such exposure to the elements. As a consequence, the father died shortly after they reached Indiana. He left Janette with eleven children and no means to support them. She became a tollkeeper on a toll road and put some of the older children to work while some of the younger ones were indentured. Alexander was indentured to a man named Godlove near Muncie, Indiana where he learned carpentry and coopery.
