Mary was born in March 1900 in Alexandria, Campbell, Kentucky, USA.1 Mary's father was Henry V. Neff and her mother was Elizabeth K. Or Lizzie Schneiders. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Neff and Mary Decker; her maternal grandparents were Peter Wilhelm Schneiders and Thecla Bruns. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Henry, John, George J., Willard, Annie or Anna, Elizabeth and Virginia. She was the second oldest of the eight children.
