His paternal grandparents were Spencer and Kessiah; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Carby and Elizabeth Nichols. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Ander, Ken, Joseph M., Hal, Asa Dowell, Lenora, Rady, Ellie and Rosa S.. He was the fifth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 68 on March 11th, 1936 in , Hardin, Kentucky, USA. He was buried in Carbytown Cemetery, Spurrier, Hardin, Kentucky, USA.2 1 General Notes
