Her paternal grandparents were John Buckles and Frances Wallingford; her maternal grandfather is John Greenawalt Sr. and her maternal grandmother was Rachel Logsdon. She had five brothers and five sisters, named James, Augustine D., William Henry, Isaac, William, Eliza, Rachel, Millie E., Malinda and Mary Jane.
