Lawrence Joseph Bihl, 91, of Franklin Furnace, died Tuesday June 20,
2000, at Greenbriar Convalescent Center of Wheelersburg. He was born
March 11, 1909, in Wheelersburg, a son of the late Charles Fredrick Bihl
& Paulena Simon Bihl. He was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church
of Wheelersburg & the Men's Club, past president of the former Holy Name
Society, a member of St. Peter's Over 55 Club, a member, past president &
board member of the Scioto County Farm Bureau, & a member of the former
Wheelersburg Farm Bureau Council. He was a past president of the former
Shorthorn Breeders Association. He was the recipient of the 1967 Farmer
of the Year Award from the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce. He is survived
by his wife, Agnes Sommer Bihl, whom he married November 14, 1934, in
Portsmouth; 2 daughters, Mary Agnes McDavid & Kathi Denise Cartee, both
of Franklin Furnace; 1 brother, Albert Bihl of Washington Court House; 8
grandchildren; & 5 greatgrandchildren. He also was preceded in death by 2
daughters, Rosemary & Elizabeth Bihl; 1 son, Fredrick Joseph Bihl; & 3
brothers, Charles, Louis, & Paul Bihl. Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Wheelersburg, with the Rev.
Peter Gideon & the Rev. William Patterson officiating, & interment in St.
Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in
Wheelersburg from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with rosary at 8 p.m. Friday.
