REFN: 2669 Earl of Warwick. He was one of the lords appointed by the G ood Parliament of 1376 to inquire into the government and w as later one of the governors of the young Richard II. As R ichard assumed power, Warwick joined the barons who oppose d the acts of Richard's favorite courtiers and was one of t he lords appellant (1388) who accused them of treason and c urbed Richard's power. When Richard resumed control (1389) , Warwick retired to his estates until until his sudden arr est on a fabricated charge of treason in 1397. He was impri soned in the Tower of London (in the Beauchamp Tower, name d for him) until the accession of Henry IV, when he was rel eased.
