James COURTENAY 
James was born about 1657.1 James' father was William COURTENAY and his mother was Margaret WALLER. His paternal grandparents were Francis COURTENAY and Elizabeth SEYMOUR; his maternal grandparents were William WALLER and Jane KEYNELL. He had eight brothers and eight sisters, named William, Francis, Edward, George, Richard, George, Henry, William, Lucy, Elizabeth, Isabell, Ann, Margaret, Jane, Mary and Dorothy. He was the seventh oldest of the seventeen children. He died in 1727. He was buried on January 7th, 1727 in Powderham, Devon.2 General Notes
