Cessely was born about 1452 in Brydges, Sollors, Herefordshire, England. Cessely's father was Giles Brugge and her mother was Catherine Clifford. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Brugge and Alice De Berkeley; her maternal grandparents were James Clifford and Margaret Hedley. She had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Giles and Ciceley. She was the youngest of the four children.-
