Elizabeth was born about 1691 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond, Virginia. Elizabeth's father was William Brockenbrough and her mother was Mary Newman. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Newman and Bridgett Wilson. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Austin, William, Newman, Mary and Margaret Newman. She was the third youngest of the six children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Samuel, Winifred and Mary.-
