Virginia Sophia was born on May 23rd, 1822 in Hanover County, Virginia. Virginia Sophia's father was Prof. Harrod John Anderson and her mother was Matilda W. Hope. Her paternal grandparents were John Anderson and Mary Trevilian; her maternal grandparents were Richard Hope and Frances Terrell. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Dr. Harrod Clopton, Thomas, Edmond, John, Horace Franklin, Monroe, Mary Frances, Virginia, Harradine, Lucy Ann and Comelia. She was the oldest of the twelve children.-
