Her paternal grandparents were John Planter Glymph and Elizabeth Rikard; her maternal grandparents were Martin Kinard, Jr. and Katherine Kuhn. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Flavius Josephus, John M. Glymph, Lemuel Pickney, Walker Milton Henry (Twin), Catherine Elizabeth "Betsy", Martha "Patsy", Sarah D.
