Notes for JOHN FINLAY:
On March 4, 1543, was a witness to a Charter to Father Robert Cunynham,
Provincial of the Order of the Holy Trinity. In a Royal Charter, July 21,
1547, John Hamilton and Helen Cunyhame, his wife, and John Finlay and his
sons, are mentioned as occupying land in Drumelog and Brintenant, in
Avendale, County Lanark. The sons of John Finlay were Luke, William,
William Roger and the change in spelling from Finlay to Finley is found
in various documents relating to this family.
