John Dent 
John was born on February 11th, 1755 in Loudon Co.,VA. John's father was George Dent and his mother was Elizabeth Short. His paternal grandfather was George Dent; his maternal grandparents were George Short and Anne. He was an only child. He died at the age of 85 on September 20th, 1840 in Mongolia,VA.General Notes
John Dent wrote on his application for a Rev War pension that he was born 2-18-1755 in Loudoun Co., VA. In the spring of 1776 when he was 21 years old, he crossed the Blue Ridge, Shenandoah, and Allegheny mountains into the virtually unsettled wilderness of Monongalia Co., VA. He no doubt followed much the same route across the mountains that George Washington had pioneered 20 years before.
In April of 1777 John enlisted as a private under Capt. David Scott in the 13th Virginia Regiment of Militia to fight in the Rev. War. John Dent's service in the Rev War is described in "Gleanings of Virginia History" by William F. Boogher.
A pension certificate dated Sept. 4, 1834, shows John Dent entitled to a pension of $320.00 per year beginning March 4, 1831, for his military service in the Rev. War.

3-26-1791- John and Margaret Dent sold to Wm W. Watkins 400 ac. on Scotts Mill Run, including a 1776 settlement and adj. Philip Shively, Abraham Harden and David Watkins. Wit. for deed were David Scott, Thomas Pindell and Evan Watkins.
