His paternal grandparents were John Beals and Mary Clayton; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Bowater and Sarah Edge. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Bowater, William, Sarah, Ann Mary, Prudence and Rachel. He died on April 17th, 1796 in Center,Guilford County,North Carolina.-
