Richard was born in 1515 in St. Nicholas, Bristol, Gloucester, England.  Richard's father was William Cary Sr. and his mother was Joane Herle.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Cary and Agnes Hody; his maternal grandparents were John Herle IV and Margaret Fulkeram. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Aquo, Richard, Agnes and Susan.  He died at the age of 55 in November 1570 in St. Nicholas, Bristol, Gloucester, England.  He was buried on June 17th, 1570 in Crypt of St. Nicholas Church, Bristol, England.

‌Richard and Christian were married in a religious ceremony in 1540 in , Bristol, Gloucester, England.1   They had two sons and five daughters, named Richard, William, Lettice, Elizabeth, Francis, Agnes and Mary.
