Alan was born about 1155 in Wycombe,Buckinghamshire,England. Alan's father was Thomas II Basset and his mother was Alice (Or Adeliza) De Dunstanville. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Basset and Edith D'oilly; his maternal grandparents were Robert (Or Reginald) De Dunstanville and Isabella De Toulouse. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas III, Gilbert and N.N.. He was the oldest of the four children. He died in 1231.General Notes
