Her paternal grandparents were Hugh De Baliol and Cecily De La Fontaine; her maternal grandparents were Alan McDonald De Galloway and Margaret of Huntington. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Hugh De, Alexander De, John, Alan De, William De, Eleanor De, Mary De, Ada De, UNKNOWN and Margaret De. She was the second oldest of the eleven children.
