Joan was born about 1406 in Westminster, Middlesex, England.1   Joan's father was JOHN 1st DUKE de SOMERSET de BEAUFORT and her mother was MARGARET (Duchess) de HOLLAND.  Her paternal grandparents were King) de GAUNT (Duke JOHN and CATHERINE (Duchess) de ROET; her maternal grandparents were Earl) BARON de HOLLAND (Sir THOMAS and ALICE FITZ ALAN. She had five brothers and a sister, named Henry 2nd Earl de Somerset, JOHN, Thomas, Edmund Duke de Somerset, Edmund and Margaret.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.  She died on July 15th, 1445 in Dunbar Castle, East Lothian, Scotland.1

‌Joan and James "Black Knight" (Sir) were married in a religious ceremony in 1439 in St Andrew's, Fifeshire, England.1   They had three sons named John Earl de Atholl, James "Hearty James" and Andrew Bishop de Moray.


Joan's second family with James I King de SCOTLAND

‌Joan and James I King were married in a religious ceremony in St Mary Overy's, Southwark, Scotland.1   They had two sons and six daughters, named Alexander, James II, Margaret, Isabella (Elizabeth), Joan (Janet), Mary, Annabella and Eleanor.
