Elias Franklin was born on June 3rd, 1852 in Pike Co., AL.1 Elias Franklin's father was Henry Clay Stephenson and his mother was Christilla Jenerett. His maternal grandparents were Elias G. Jenerett and Ann Eliza Thomas. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John Henry, Columbus, Jefferson Davis, Elizabeth A. and Mary A.. He was the oldest of the six children.
