Chapman Levi Spradley 
Chapman Levi was born on February 3rd, 1829 in Kershaw Dist., SC.1 Chapman Levi's father was Warren Charles Spradley and his mother was Alcey D. Malone. His paternal grandparents were James, Sr. Spradley and Mary Manning. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Michael Decalb Charles, James John, Bryant Augustus, Zachariah Tucker, Sarah Ann, Caroline Amelia and Frances Jane. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 75 on October 29th, 1904 in Crenshaw Co., AL. He was buried in Old Providence Cemetery, Crenshaw Co., AL..1 1 General Notes

Chapman farmed all his life in Lowndes and Crenshaw counties, AL. The
1857 of Lowndes Tax Assessment list ages of slaves: 1 male 10-45, 1 under
5, 14 5 to 10, 1 fifteen to thirty years old. The 1869 Crenshaw Co., tax
list shows he owned 200 acres (Sec. S, TW. 10, range 18w, Beat #5) 80
acres of which was improved and 120 acres unimproved with a value of $300
and taxes of $2.25. He and his wife have a beautiful monument on their
grave.
He was a member The Crenshaw County Confederate Veteran’s Association
in 1890. Company F 5th Alabama Regiment.
He served in the Civil War and his records indicate he enlisted in
Pike Co., AL, September 9, 1862 as a private and later made sergeant.
Captured August 8, 1864 at Strasburg, Shenandoah Co., VA. Held prisoner
through October 1864 with Co. F, 5th Alabama Infantry. His wife received
a pension after his death.
