Theophilus was born on April 10th, 1874 in AL.1 Theophilus' father was Mathew M. (Mack) Rushing and his mother was Sarah Jane Amerson. His paternal grandparents were William Cain Rushing and Mary Ann Rushing; his maternal grandparents were Wiley Bradford Amason and Eliza M. Smart. He had eight brothers and two sisters, named Joseph Thomas, Thomas Jefferson, John MacDonald, William Henry, Mathew B., Newton, David, Perry D., Elizabeth Jane and Martha.
