David's father was Ray Rushton Rushing and his mother was Mary Ella Fannin. His paternal grandparents were David Oliver Rushing and Coral E. Rushton. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Ray Roderick, Coral, Jane, Katherine and Mary.-
