William J. was born about 1827 in SC.¹   William J.'s father was Joseph Drury Murphy and his mother was Edy Jackson. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Mark Emanuel, Zeke Jesse, Susan W., Julia, Amanda, Harriett F., Elizabeth, Jane and Polly. He had a half-sister named Jane.  He died in ?.¹
