John was born on May 2nd, 1857 in ?.¹ John's father was William P. Loggins and his mother was Nancy Ann Sears. His maternal grandparents were Bishop Harrison Sears and Margaret Lang. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Eli Kinsey, James Madison, Bishop, Zealous Columbus, Susanah Minervah Jane and Martha Palmetto. He was the third youngest of the seven children.
