James Adam Hill 
James Adam was born on July 24th, 1844 in Union Parish, LA.1 James Adam's father was John Hill and his mother was Sarah Taylor. He had a brother and a sister, named Joseph Reid and Sarah Ann. Five years ago J. A. Hill became associated with Jno. D. Rogers of
Galveston in farming on the Brazon, some eight miles from Navasota. He
farmed there three years, when he took the black jaundice and died, on
the 12th Aug. 1889. This country lost her greatest man on his death. He
was an intellectual giant. Elmere [sic] still lives at her old home with
her young children. She has had eleven children, losing two infants. The
most of her children are grown and very intelligent. (letter - June 10/92)
