Elmore Joseph was born on June 30th, 1828 in Wetumpka, AL.1 Elmore Joseph's father was Benjamin Fitzpatrick and his mother was Sarah Terry Elmore. His maternal grandparents were John Archer Elmore and Nancy Ann Martin. He had five brothers named Phillips, Morris Martin, James Madison, Thomas Sumpter and John Archer. He was the oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Benjamin. He died at the age of 55 on June 27th, 1884 in Montgomery, Montgomery Co., AL. Was in Semple's Battery, then Judge advocate in the military court at
Mobile. He later became solicitor general for the judicial circuit from
1865-1869. Practiced law in 1878 between Perry and Lawrence, (streets in
Montgomery, AL) and lived on the corner of High and McDonough. (streets
in Montgomery, AL). He read law under John Archibald Campbell, the
brother-in- law of Henry Barnes Goldthwaite, the former law partner of
