Earl Howard Deckard 
Earl Howard was born on September 21st, 1906 in Lafayette Co., MS.1 Earl Howard's father was John Winter Barnett Deckard and his mother was Lillie Moss Bumgardner. His maternal grandparents were George Bradford Bumgardner and Genevia Montrey Harding. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Carl Nunery, Ferdinand N., Mable Quovatis and Montrie Zila. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 61 on January 29th, 1968 in Taylor, Lafayette Co., MS. He was buried in Pilgrams Rest, Lafayette Co., MS.1 1 General Notes

We had moved to TN from MS, Daddy and Mama said when I was about 2 1/2. I
don't remember this address but I remember Rayborn and Florida ST. We
lived at several places on Florida, and remember neighbors such as the
Borganies, Mingrelias, Whites, Wise and many more. I remember before
Lilly got the chicken pox. Mama told us not to play with the children
next door because they were sick. We did not play with them but when they
offered us some popcorn through a hole in the hedge we took it and you
know the rest of the story. Donna

He was known to me as "Grandpa Deckard". I remember him calling us kids
"you little old pea Pickers". I thought this was so funny as a kid.
Everytime I see anything to do with the Three Stooges, I think of him
because he "hated them" He said they made his skin crawl with all the
things they did like put hot irons on each other heads and such. I
remember how much he loved his CB or maybe it was short wave radio {this
was before it became popular} and he had cards from all over the US from
people he talked to. I remember him taking me out to eat when I was 10 or
11 somewhere in Oxford and we had shrimp and I felt so grown-up. I
remember just 4 or 5 months before he died, his calling me into his study
to listen to a record he'd bought and it was Bobby Gentry, singing, Ode
to Billy Joe. He really liked her style and so did I. Most of all I was
left with the impression that, besides being my grandfather,that he liked
me as a person and "REALLY" listened to me even though I was a child. by

When my Dad and Mom first mar.(1929) they lived in a boarding house in
Water Valley, Yalobusha Co. MS along with Jessie Mae Bumgardner McKinney.
Jessie Mae said that Daddy Couldn't find a job anywhere so he stayed home
(1930) and kept their first child while Mama worked. She was a nurse in
the Water Valley hospital. Times were hard back then. He couldn't find
any kind of regular work, so in 1937 ( I was 2) we moved to Memphis.
Mama's people were still in Lafayette County, MS.
