Thomas was born about 1746 in Bertie Co., NC.1 Thomas' father was Thomas Castellaw and his mother was Sarah Ashley Williams. His paternal grandparents were James, Sr. Castellaw and Sarah Williams. He had two brothers and a sister, named William, Henry and Sarah Lee. He was the oldest of the four children.
