Castellaw and Elizabeth Cobb; his maternal grandparents were Elisha Hoggard and Amelia White. He had a brother and eight sisters, named Redden Haywood, Mary, Marthena Jane, Happy Jane, Christian, Harriet, Barbry E., Caroline and Amelia Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the ten children.
