Her paternal grandparents were Richard Vance and Mary Ann Sims; her maternal grandmother was Tabitha (Tabby) Vance. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Lewis A., Francis B., Darby Kelly, William Riley, John Floyd, Martin W., Tabitha, Mary Ann and Susannah.-
