Isabella was born about 1248 in Wigmore, Herefordshire.  Isabella's father was Roger de Mortimer Baron Wigmore and her mother was Maud de Braose.  Her paternal grandparents were Ralph de Mortimer Baron Wigmore and Gwladus Ddu "the Dark verch Llywelyn Fawr; her maternal grandparents were William "Black Will" de Braose Lord Brecknock and Eva Marshal. She had five brothers and a sister, named Ralph, Sir Edmund de Mortimer, Geoffrey, Roger, William and Isolde (Iseude). She had a half-sister named Gwenllian.  She died after 1300.

‌Isabella and John Fitzalan III were married in a religious ceremony in 1260 in England.  They had a son and a daughter, named Sir Richard Fitzalan de and Maud.
