William de was born in 1166 in Lewes, Sussex, England.  William de's father was Hamelin Plantagenet , 5th Earl of Surrey and his mother was Isabel de Warenne , Heiress of Surrey.  His paternal grandparents were Geoffrey IV Plantagenet , Comte d'Anjou and Adelaide of Angers; his maternal grandparents were William de Warenne , 3rd Earl of Surrey and Ela de Talvas , d'Alencon. He had a brother and four sisters, named Geoffrey, Ida, Maud Plantagenet de, Ela (Adela) de and Suzanne Plantagenet de.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 74 on May 27th, 1240 in London, Middlesex, England.  He was buried in Lewes Priory, Sussex, England.
