John de was born after August 1231 in Warren, Sussex, England.  John de's father was William de Warenne , 6th Earl of Surrey and his mother was Maud Marshal.  His paternal grandparents were Hamelin Plantagenet , 5th Earl of Surrey and Isabel de Warenne , Heiress of Surrey; his maternal grandparents were William Marshal , 3rd Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare , Countess of Pembroke. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Roger, Hugh, Ralph le, Simon le and Isabella.  He died after September 1304 in Kennington, Surrey, England.  He was buried in Lewes Priory, Sussex, England.

‌John de and Alice de were married in a religious ceremony in August 1247 in Woodstock, Kent, England.  They had a son and two daughters, named William de, Eleanor de and Isabel de.
