Walter De was born about 1080 in Fordington, Lincolnshire, England. Walter De's father was Lord Of Folkingham Gilbert De Gilbert De Lord Of Folkingham/Gand (Gaunt) and his mother was [Countess Montfort-Heiress] Alice De Montfort [Countess Montfort-Heiress]. His paternal grandparents were Sire D'alost Ralph De Ralph De Sire D'alost/Gand and Gisele Of Luxembourg; his maternal grandparents were Hugh II Count De Montfort and Alice De Beauffou. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Hugh IV (Gaunt) De, Henry De, Ralph De, Geoffrey De, Robert De, Peter De, Gilbert De, Walter De, Felia De, Emma De, Matilda De, Alice De and Agnes De. He was the seventh oldest of the fourteen children. He died after 1116 in Scotland.General Notes
Sir Walter de Lindissi or Lind(e)say (almost certainly 3rd son of Gilbert de Ghent) probably accompanied David, Earl of Huntingdon, subsequently King David I, in his anglicising of the Lowlands in the early 12th century; he was witness 1116 to an inquisition concerning the see of Glasgow.
