John (Jean) I Count of was born about 1140 in Montreuil, Pas-de-Calais, France.  John (Jean) I Count of's father was Guy II Count of Ponthieu and his mother was Ida de St. Pol.  His paternal grandparents were William III Talvas , Count of Alencon & Ponthieu and Alice (Alix or Ela) of Burgundy; his maternal grandparents were Hugh III Comte de St. Pol and Beatrice.  He was an only child.  He died in 1191 in Acre, Palestine.
