Thomas III de was born before 1221 in Burgh-by-Sands, Cumberland, England. Thomas III de's father was Thomas II de Multon , Sir and his mother was Ada de Morville. His paternal grandparents were Thomas I de Multon and Eleanor de Boston; his maternal grandparents were Hugh de Morville , of Burgh & Knaresborough and Hawise (Heloise) de Stuteville. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Lambert de, Alan de, Richard de, Amabel de and Alice de. He died in Gilsland, Irthington, Cumberland, England.General Notes
MULTON OF GILSLAND
THOMAS DE MULTON, 1st son of Thomas DE MULTON of Egremont by his 2nd wife, Ada, daughter and coheir of Hugh DE MORVILL, Forester of Cumberland (See MULTON of Egremont), was his mother's heir. His father gave him the Lincs manors of Whaplode and Holbeach, and at Michaelmas 1242 he accounted for his relief on succession to his mother's inheritance. Before Michaelmas 1252 he had confirmation of all the liberties of the forest of Cumberland as his ancestors had held them, and custody of Carlisle Castle. He was summoned for service in Wales in 1258; in 1264-65 he sided with the Barons against the King, but it is uncertain whether it was he or his namesake nephew of Egremont who was by them appointed Warden of the Coast, and (or) keeper of Carlisle Castle. On 18 June 1266 he had a safe conduct to come to Court, provided he kept faith with the King and his heirs; and, in July 1270, protection for 3 years.
He married Maud, daughter and heir of Hubert DE VAUX of Gilsland. He died before 14 January 1270/1. His widow died shortly before 28 May 1293. [Complete Peerage IX:405-6, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
