Robert de was born about 1031 in Mortagne-au-Perche, Orne, Normandy, France.  Robert de's father was Harlevin (Herlouin) Vicomte de Conteville and his mother was Herleve (Arlette) de Falaise.  His paternal grandfather was Jean de Conteville , Vicomte de Comyn; his maternal grandparents were Fulbert de Falaise and Doda. He had a brother and three sisters, named Odo Bishop of, Emma de, Muriel de and Miss de.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William I "The Conqueror" King of and Adelaide of.  He died on December 8th, 1095 in Abbey of St. Grestain, Normandy, France.

‌Robert de and Maud de were married in a religious ceremony before 1066 in 1st wife.  They had a son and three daughters, named William de, Emma de, Agnes de and Denise de.
