Gilbert was born in 1203 in Of, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales and his baptism took place in 1203 in St. David's, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Gilbert's father was William MARSHALL 4th Earl of PEMBROKE and his mother was Isabel de CLARE COUNTESS OF PEMBROOK. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Walter, William, Richard, Anselm, Margaret, Maud, Joan, Isabel, Sibyl and Eve. He was the second youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 38 on June 27th, 1241 in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England. He was buried in Temple Church, London, Middlesex, England.-
