Josceline de was born in 1121 in Louvain, Belgium.  Josceline de's father was Godfrey Count of Louvain , Duke of Brabant and his mother was Clemence Clementia of Burgundy.  His paternal grandparents were Henry II Count of Louvain and Adelaide of Orlamunda; his maternal grandparents were William I "The Great" Count of Macon & Burgundy and Stephanie (Etiennette) de Longwy. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Godfrey II Count of and Adeliza Adela of.  He died before September 1180 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England.

‌Josceline de and Agnes de were married in a religious ceremony after 1154.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Henry de, Richard de and Maud de Louvain de.
