William I was born about 1176 in England.  William I's father was Henry II "Curt Mantel" King of England and his mother was Ida de Toeni.  His maternal grandmother was Margaret de Beaumont. He had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Richard I "The Lion Hearted" King of, Geoffrey, John I "Lackland" Plantagenet King of, Henry "Young King", Hugh, Matilda Princess of, Eleanor Princess of, Margaret and Mary.  He died in Salisbury Castle, Wiltishire, England.

‌William I and Ela were married in a religious ceremony in 1198.  They had two sons and two daughters, named William II, Stephen de, Ida (Idonea) and Isabel.
