Hawise De was born in 1180 in Chester, Cheshire, England. Hawise De's father was Hugh De Meschines Earl Of Meschines 5th Earl Of Chester/Chester and her mother was Bertha (Bertrade) De Montfort [Countess]. Her paternal grandparents were Ranulph "De Gernon" Ranulf De 4th Earl Of Chester/Meschines and Maud Fitzrobert De Caen [Countess Of Chester; her maternal grandparents were Simon III Chauve De Montfort Count Of Evreux and Maud De Beaumont Albeaade. She had a brother and six sisters, named Ranulph De, Beatrix De, Maud De, Mabel Of, Agnes Of, Agnes De and Amicia De. She was the youngest of the eight children. She died after June 6th, 1241 in England. She was buried before March 3rd, 1242.General Notes

The Earldom of Lincoln was revived twenty years after the 2nd Earl's death in favour of his cousin, Ranulph Earl of Chester, who of course also had a long-standing connection with the county through their common ancestress Countess Lucy. Ranulph's prominent role in defeating the French invaders at the Battle of Lincoln earlier in 1217, the year he was made Earl of Lincoln, played a part in his elevation. Soon after Michaelmas 1230 he made over the Earldom to his sister Hawise, from whom it was conveyed to her son-in-law John de Lacy, the traffic in the dignity being approved by Henry III in both cases in the autumn of 1232.
