Hugh was born about 1095 in Richard's Castle, Ludlow, Herefordshire, England. Hugh's father was Osborn FitzRichard , Sheriff of Hereford and his mother was Nesta verch Gruffudd. His paternal grandparents were Richard FitzScrob and Miss de Essex; his maternal grandparents were Gruffudd ap Llewelyn , Prince of Wales and Edith (Aldgyth) of Mercia. He had a sister named Nesta verch. He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers named Llywarch ap and Owain ap. He died before 1140.-
