Matthew was born in 1140. Matthew's father was Count of Flanders Dietrich (Thierry) D'Alsace Count of Flanders and his mother was Sibyl D'Anjou. His maternal grandparents were King Of Jerusalem Foulques V "le Jeune" Comte D'Anjou King Of Jerusalem and Ermengarde Comtesse Du Maine. He had a sister named Marguerite. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 33 on July 25th, 1173 in Battle.
