Robert was born about 1090 in Caen, Normandy, France.  Robert's father was Henry I "Beauclerc" King of England and his mother was Princess of Wales Nesta Verch Rhys Princess of Wales.  His paternal grandparents were William the Conqueror King of England and Matilda Countess of Flanders; his maternal grandparents were Prince of Deheubarth Rhys Ap Tewdwr Mawr Prince of Deheubarth and Gwladys Verch Rhiwallon. He had a brother named Henry. He had four half-brothers and fourteen half-sisters, named Renaud, William, Maurice FitzWalter, William FitzGerald, Matilda (Maud) Empress of, Alice Of, Emma Princess Of, Constance Matilda, Joan (Elizabeth) of, Sybil, Rohese, Maud of, Constance, Emma, Sybil, Mabilia (Eustacia), Maud and Mathilda Of.  He died on October 31st, 1147 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.
