His paternal grandparents were Richard Comyn , Justiciar of Scotland and Hextilda of Tynedale; his maternal grandfather was Fergus 4th Earl of Buchan. He had three sisters named Idoine, Margaret and Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the four children. He had two half-brothers named Walter and Richard. He died before April 6th, 1290 in Buchan, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.-
