William "Simple" de was born about 1080 in Champagne, France.  William "Simple" de's father was Stephen "Le Sage" Count of Champagne & Blois and his mother was Adela of Normandy , Princess of England.  His paternal grandparents were Theobald III Comte de Blois and Alix de Crepi; his maternal grandparents were William I "The Conqueror" King of England and Matilda (Maud) of Flanders. He had two brothers and a sister, named Theobald IV Comte de, Stephen I de Blois King of and Maud de.  He was the oldest of the four children. He had a half-sister named Emma of.  He died before 1150.
